2021 · Based on 1 season, 4 episodes through December 27, 2021 ·
Landscapers follows Susan Edwards and her husband, Christopher, after police find her parents’ bodies buried in a garden in Nottinghamshire. The couple has lived in France for years, hiding the 1998 killings and spending stolen money on old film pictures and posters. Susan sees her life through old movies, while Christopher protects her and tries to keep their fragile home together. The four episodes move between police interviews, court scenes, childhood memories, and strange film scenes, so the tone is sad, darkly funny, and unreal.
The show gives Susan a painful childhood and shows how her parents’ control shapes the story she tells about the murders. The marriage rests on loyalty, denial, and a shared fantasy, even as the evidence points to a planned double murder. The police test the couple’s repeated account against the bodies, gun evidence, and money trail. The series asks viewers to understand their damage while still facing the harm they caused.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Landscapers.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The lead couple and most of the Edwards family are white British characters, while the police and solicitor include Black and South Asian actors in ordinary roles. The show does not turn those identities into a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on the killings, family abuse, money, police interviews, and the trial. No character argues for a modern political cause or activist program.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Susan’s childhood abuse and her parents’ control explain her memories and behavior in this crime story. The series does not turn that family trauma into a wider race, gender, sexuality, or activist message.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The police and court work to test the couple’s story against physical evidence. The show presents their mistakes and pressure as part of the investigation, not as a modern attack on Western institutions or family life.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series is based on a real murder case and invents scenes to show the couple’s memories and claims. Those changes serve the crime drama and are not presented as a diversity or political statement.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Viewers and reviewers mainly debated the dark comedy, the unusual style, and the sympathy shown to two killers. No notable complaint in the researched coverage said the show pushed woke, DEI, or identity politics.

Creator track record context
Ed Sinclair has a moderate cached score because his work on Wicked Little Letters was publicly linked to female empowerment, competition between women, and male oppression. Will Sharpe has a low cached score and no clear activist record in the stored notes. Olivia Colman has a higher cached score because she has publicly supported LGBTQ+ causes, while the other listed producers and casting staff range from low to modest. The title-related interviews focus on crime, abuse, love, and sympathy rather than a diversity campaign.
