2026 · Based on 1 season, 8 episodes through July 15, 2026 ·
Ride or Die follows Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, two longtime friends living in London. Debbie learns that Judith is not a forensic accountant but a trained international assassin. After a failed hit and the apparent murder of Debbie’s husband, the friends run across Europe while criminals, police, and other killers chase them. The tone mixes gun fights, dark jokes, road-trip chaos, and serious talks about trust, lies, regret, and starting over. The show makes midlife women the center of its action and gives them the main skills, choices, and emotional weight. Judith is a highly skilled killer, while Debbie moves from a sidelined political wife to a resourceful planner, thief, and returning lawyer. Repeated scenes call out Judith’s treatment as a woman of a certain age and show Debbie rejecting a marriage that consumed her own career. The season presents female friendship, freedom from limiting gender roles, and new chances for women as major themes, while its corrupt politics and secret agency mostly serve the thriller plot.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Ride or Die.
Woke representation / casting
The show puts two women in their 50s at the center of its action story. Judith is a highly trained assassin, and Debbie becomes a major planner and survivor after starting as a political wife. Female characters also fill several important roles as assassins, agency workers, and rivals. The marketing and interviews openly present this choice as giving midlife women action roles.
60%
Woke political dialogue
Sam says Judith may have become unstable after turning 50 and calls her a Woman Of A Certain Age. Debbie says she gave up her legal career to build David’s political future. Judith and Debbie later argue about lost chances, fear, and the need to choose their own lives. These lines recur around the marriage, the Agency, and the final break with old roles.
42%
Identity-driven story themes
The show makes female friendship and midlife empowerment the season’s emotional center. Debbie leaves a marriage built around her husband’s political rise and returns to law at the end. Judith stays the best fighter even when the Agency treats her as worn out because of her age. Ana, Queenie, and Diane add repeated stories about women facing control, loss, and betrayal inside the Agency.
68%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show criticizes a male-led Agency that treats Judith as unstable and disposable after she turns 50. It shows Debbie’s marriage and political life as a role where her work supports her husband while he plans to leave her. The story praises her choice to leave that role and rebuild her own career. Its corruption plot is mostly a crime story, so the modern institutional critique stays focused on age and gender.
43%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show is an original story with no established characters, source canon, or real historical figures to reinterpret. Its plot changes are ordinary story events rather than identity changes.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small right-leaning critic calls the show “man-hating” and points to girlboss assassins, DEI casting, mixed-race pairings, and weak men. The same critic posts a small woke checklist, while a few tiny accounts call the show woke or garbage TV. A niche conservative review site also labels the show Woke, but no large outlet, boycott, review-bombing, or organized campaign is reported.

Creator track record context
The creative team is mixed. Tessa Coates, Matt Miller, Peyton Reed, and most writers and producers have little public activist history. DeMane Davis and Lauren Wolkstein have stronger identity-centered work histories, while Hannah Waddingham has public gender-equality and LGBT ally signals. This gives supporting context for the show’s female-centered direction, but it is not a team-wide activist pattern.
