2022– · Based on 1 season, 8 episodes through June 30, 2022 ·
Navy SEAL James Reece survives an ambush that kills his platoon. He then loses his wife and daughter. He hunts a conspiracy of defense contractors, drug companies, and corrupt military and government figures who used his unit as test subjects for a memory drug. The prequel Dark Wolf follows Ben Edwards from SEAL work into CIA and Mossad missions about Iran nuclear weapons, with Reece in a support role. Across both, the story centers on military brotherhood, revenge, institutional betrayal, and the human cost of secret war.
Little identity politics drives the plot. The cast includes some modern diversity in military, intel, and journalism roles, but the male SEAL brotherhood and Chris Pratt remain the center. Speech is tactical, grief driven, and conspiracy focused, not activist slogans. Corrupt brass, defense firms, and drug companies appear as classic elite villains, not as a race or gender lecture. No confirmed LGBTQ characters or identity arcs appear in the released seasons. The show treats service and operators with respect rather than framing them as social justice targets.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Terminal List.
Woke representation / casting
The cast has some modern diversity in military, intel, and news roles. Constance Wu plays a war reporter. Other roles include a Black SEAL commander, mixed law enforcement faces, a female Secretary of Defense villain, and allies in Dark Wolf. The male SEAL brotherhood and Chris Pratt stay at the center. This looks like ordinary contemporary casting, not a DEI showcase.
8%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. No audience-facing dialogue elevating modern identity, DEI, systemic race or gender ideology, or activist catchphrases. Speech is procedural, tactical, grief-driven, and conspiracy-oriented.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Story engines are ambush cover-up, family murder, pharmaceutical and DoD corruption, vengeance lists, and in Dark Wolf spy tradecraft and Iran nuclear games. No arcs built around race, gender ideology, queer identity, or present-day social-justice framing. LGBTQ elements are none confirmed in either released series.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show blames corrupt brass, defense firms, drug companies, and some CIA betrayal. That is classic conspiracy storytelling, not a lecture on race, gender, or colonial guilt. The flag and military service are often shown with respect. Only a light touch comes from the idea that big institutions treat people like data points.
5%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. as identity or DEI rewrites. Adaptation compresses and modernizes Carr’s novel. Reporting indicates the series toned down some of the book’s more partisan asides rather than inserting progressive identity revisions. No widely reported race or gender swaps of legacy figures sold as ideological upgrades.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public debate ran the opposite direction. Critics framed it as right-wing, and creators said the show lacks woke messaging. Fans treat it as non-woke entertainment. That is not complaint that the title itself pushes DEI or identity politics.
0%
Creator track record context
Main leaders like Jack Carr, David DiGilio, Antoine Fuqua, and Max Adams score low on woke track records. Carr has publicly criticized woke entertainment expectations. Mary Vernieu and MJ Bassett have higher personal scores, but they are not the franchise voice. Overall leadership is authenticity and veteran first.
