2016 · Based on 1 season, 11 episodes through March 25, 2016 ·
Jimmy Pritchard is a disgraced 75-year-old former sheriff in King County, Washington. Corrupt officers kill him, but tech twins Mary and Otto Goodwin bring him back in a younger body with great strength and fast healing. Jimmy then helps his FBI son, Duval, solve crimes while hiding who he is. The tone mixes crime cases, science fiction, family pain, and dark humor. Jimmy must also face the bad choices that ruined his first life and learn whether a new body can lead to a better man.
Across all 11 episodes, the show puts two actors of South Asian background in the central twin science roles. Mary is a rich company leader and scientist who helps direct the plan, while Otto is a male tech genius who depends heavily on her. This gives the show visible diversity and a strong female leader, but race, sex, and sexual identity do not drive the plot. The story instead returns to family repair, personal guilt, cancer treatment, privacy, and the danger of changing human life. The season ends with Mary and Duval trying to save Jimmy and Gracie from Otto's risky experiment.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Second Chance.
Woke representation / casting
The show puts two actors of South Asian background in the central twin science roles. Mary is a major company leader and scientist, and Otto is a leading tech genius. The modern Seattle setting makes this mix believable. The visible diversity still gives a mild representation signal because a cast interview also spoke about diverse lead roles and stronger female representation.
22%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The third episode shows a coal-plant protest and a public statement about peaceful protest, but it does not build a recurring woke political message from them. The main dialogue centers on crime, family, and science.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Mary’s cancer and Otto’s dependence on her are family and science plot points. No recurring story makes race, sex, or sexual identity the main issue.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The show depicts corrupt police, rich people hiding crimes, and a company that collects large amounts of data. These are individual crime and privacy problems, not a repeated activist attack on Western institutions or family life.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show is a loose modern version of Frankenstein, with a sheriff, tech twins, and a crime plot. No identity-driven change to a known character, source, or historical figure is part of the show.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke reaction or specific complaint. Web coverage and fan reviews focused on ratings, quality, and cancellation, not woke or DEI messaging.

Creator track record context
Rand Ravich has no reported activist record, and most of the listed writers and directors have low or unclear woke histories. Howard Gordon has political work and has talked about learning from more diverse voices. Kate Dennis has a stronger feminist and socially minded work record than the rest of the group. The overall creator context is a mild signal, with no strong shared identity-driven pattern.
