2024– · Based on 1 season, 15 episodes through December 17, 2024 ·
Secret Level is an adult animated collection with fifteen short stories set inside different video game worlds. Each episode follows a new lead, such as adventurers saving a possessed boy, a fighter seeking revenge, or a father chasing his daughter through space. The stories move through fantasy, science fiction, horror, comedy, and military action, so the tone changes often. Most episodes focus on battles, sacrifice, family, revenge, and the cost of endless survival.
The season gives women several important roles. Mora leads the Dungeons and Dragons rescue, Layla helps carry the Crossfire mission, Ana and Liz share the Spelunky story, Cassidy commands the Concord crew, and O leads the PlayStation short. The season also shows varied fantasy races, a black female captain, and a female scientist, but the stories do not make identity politics their subject. Two shorts criticize abusive systems, while the other episodes stay with adventure, revenge, family, or game lore. The season's main message is that courage, loyalty, memory, and free choice matter more than power, money, or game rules.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Secret Level.
Woke representation / casting
Several episodes give women the main action roles. Mora leads the D&D rescue, Layla is central to Crossfire, Ana and Liz carry Spelunky, Cassidy commands the Concord crew, and O leads the PlayStation story. The season also shows varied fantasy races, a black female captain, and a female lead scientist. Tim Miller said the choices were not made only by middle-aged white men. The roles fit their game worlds, so the pattern is visible but does not dominate the show.
38%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The show has no speeches about current identity politics, DEI, or social movements. Its dialogue stays with missions, danger, loyalty, and game-world rules.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The stories are about revenge, adventure, family, freedom, survival, and game mechanics. Spelunky has two women helping each other, but it does not make gender or sexuality the point.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Unreal Tournament shows mining robots abused by human owners and forced into public fights. The Outer Worlds shows a company maiming poor workers in drug tests and hiding unsafe products. These are brief anti-exploitation and anti-corporate ideas. The season does not connect them to race, gender, current activism, or a wider political program.
14%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The episodes use original short stories and loose game-world extensions. The dark Pac-Man design is a creative change, but it is not an identity or DEI change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Small X accounts called Spelunky and Concord feminist, woke, or DEI. Other users called the show woke nonsense, while a few Reddit posts called the PlayStation short a woke ad and complained about a diversity quota. Those posts focused on a few episodes and stayed small. No sustained boycott, review-bomb drive, or major-account campaign was found. The backlash was fringe and mixed.
18%
Creator track record context
Stored creator notes give Tim Miller and most directors and writers low or limited political signals. Christian Taylor, Heather Anne Campbell, and Tamsyn Muir have higher stored scores linked to LGBTQ or representation work. Taylor co-wrote Concord, Campbell wrote The Outer Worlds, and Muir wrote Spelunky. The show itself does not turn these episodes into queer or identity lessons.
