2025– · Based on 1 season, 7 episodes through October 19, 2025 ·
Task follows Tom Brandis, a tired FBI agent and former Catholic priest in the Philadelphia suburbs. After a family tragedy, Tom returns to field work and leads a new task force against violent robberies at drug houses. The robberies come from Robbie Prendergrast, a garbage worker and father who wants money and revenge against a biker gang. The seven-episode season stays dark and tense, but it also makes room for grief, faith, and mercy.
The show has one small identity-focused thread through Aleah Clinton, a black detective whose past abuse shapes her work. Aleah uses her own pain to help another woman speak, and the story presents her as a tough and highly capable officer. That message about women standing up for themselves stays inside her personal story and does not drive the whole case. The season spends far more time on crime, family duty, guilt, forgiveness, and Tom's choice to forgive his son.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Task.
Woke representation / casting
Thuso Mbedu plays Aleah Clinton, a Black Chester detective who is one of the show's most capable officers. Aleah is a skilled shooter and solves key problems for the team. Her abuse history gives her a small empowerment role because she uses her pain to help another woman. The casting fits modern Philadelphia and does not look like a major identity-first choice.
18%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Conversations focus on grief, fatherhood, faith crises, criminal choices, and investigation with no activist language or modern social-justice framing.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Aleah's storyline makes domestic abuse part of her reason for helping another woman. Aleah uses her own experience to help Shelley speak about abuse. The show presents survival and helping other women as a small message of strength. The larger plot stays focused on crime, grief, family, faith, and forgiveness.

Creator track record context
Brad Ingelsby has little public activist history and is known for personal stories about loss, faith, and moral choices. Jeremiah Zagar has some queer-related work in his past, while Salli Richardson-Whitfield has a stronger record of supporting diverse casting and directing opportunities. Avy Kaufman has worked on queer-focused and diverse projects. The other producers have standard industry profiles, so the overall creator context is moderate rather than high.
