2022 · Based on 1 season, 10 episodes through May 2, 2022 ·
The Endgame is a crime thriller set mainly in New York and at Fort Totten, where the FBI holds Elena Federova after capturing her. Elena is an international arms dealer who runs seven bank takeovers from prison, while FBI agent Val Turner follows clues and tries to learn the plan. Val also deals with a jailed husband, a damaged career, and a long link to Elena. The season mixes gun fights, riddles, family secrets, betrayal, and a final cliffhanger.
The show puts two women at the center of nearly every major turn. Val is a highly skilled Black FBI agent who keeps solving cases even when male bosses doubt or block her. Elena is a brilliant woman who controls a large crime network, makes the men around her follow her plan, and ties her mission to motherhood, revenge, and power. The story gives this female strength and visible racial representation real weight, but it presents them through crime, corruption, and family drama instead of a direct activist campaign.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Endgame.
Woke representation / casting
Val is a Black FBI agent, and Elena is an Eastern European international criminal played by Brazilian-American Morena Baccarin. Both women hold the two main roles, while several supporting agents and officials are also people of color. The story gives Elena a mixed international past, and the modern New York setting can include this cast. Interviews also present the show as a story led by two women who are not white, which makes representation part of the public pitch.
56%
Woke political dialogue
Val is told that her career once aimed at making her the first black female supervisor in the New York criminal branch. Elena says that men have been the face of dangerous business while women held the power. These race and gender lines appear only a few times, while most dialogue deals with crime, family, loyalty, and corruption.
30%
Identity-driven story themes
Val and Elena are the show's main rivals, and both women are shown as the people who can read the plan and control the next move. Val keeps solving clues after male bosses dismiss, demote, or bench her. Elena runs the heists from prison, leads men around her, and says that women held the real power in dangerous business. The story ties Elena's strength to motherhood, marriage, revenge, and survival, so the message is strong but still wrapped in a crime plot.
58%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show targets the attorney general, Homeland officials, judges, State Department workers, White House staff, and prison leaders through its crime plot. The season repeats bribery, cover-ups, rigged trials, and secret deals inside those institutions. Elena calls this rot in the system, and the plot proves that many officials are guilty. The story uses this idea as a revenge mystery, not as a direct attack on capitalism, Christianity, family life, or a modern conservative group.
34%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show is an original NBC crime story, so it does not change an established character, canon, or historical event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A NeoGAF thread called the series “woke casting” and a copy of The Blacklist. The supplied X research found two small accounts calling it a “woke blacklist” or a “feminist” version with less charm. The posts had little engagement, and no organized campaign, review-bombing, or boycott was found. The complaints are fringe reactions and do not prove that the show contains those elements.
15%
Creator track record context
Lisa Takeuchi Cullen has the clearest inclusion record, with a WGA East equity role and work supporting underrepresented writers. Julie Plec has a moderate record of adding diverse and queer characters, while most other listed creators have little public activist history. Justin Lin's cached context favors open casting over quota language, which lowers the strength of the wider creator signal.
