TV Show review
2021 · Based on 1 season, 6 episodes through July 29, 2021 ·
Optimus Prime leads the Autobots after their ship crashes on a prehistoric version of Earth. The Autobots meet Optimus Primal and the Maximals, while Megatron joins the Predacons to find the AllSpark and control Cybertron. The Golden Disk sends the groups through visions and time as they fight across the planet and return to Cybertron for a final battle. The season is dark and serious, with war, sacrifice, betrayal, and large robot fights.
Kingdom gives Blackarachnia playful attraction toward female robots, including a cheek kiss to Airazor after they work together. The moment is clear enough to read as queer flirting, but it lasts only a few seconds and never becomes a full romance. The season also gives Airazor and Blackarachnia important action roles, while Elita-1 remains a major female leader in the wider war story. The main themes are loyalty, redemption, unity between rival factions, and the struggle against tyranny.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The characters are robots, so human ethnicity is not visible in the story. Elita-1, Airazor, and Blackarachnia are established female Transformers, and the title does not frame their casting as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Megatron's tyranny and Optimus's belief in freedom belong to the robot war story. The dialogue does not include modern identity or activist ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Blackarachnia flirts with female robots, including a cheek kiss to Airazor after they work together. Airazor reacts with surprise, but the show never builds their moment into a full romance. The main plot follows loyalty, redemption, time travel, and the fight over the AllSpark. The same-sex moment is noticeable but brief.
34%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The story condemns Megatron's tyranny and the violence of war. It does not attack modern family roles, religion, capitalism, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Kingdom changes the relationship framing around two established Beast Wars characters. Blackarachnia flirts with Airazor and kisses her cheek, while the season does not use Blackarachnia's familiar Silverbolt pairing from the 1990s show. Airazor and Tigatron remain closely linked, so the new moment reads as a new same-sex angle instead of a full romance. The change is clear but brief and does not drive the ending.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A CBR headline calling the Airazor and Blackarachnia scene an LGBT romance drew hostile replies and quote posts. Reddit comments repeated complaints that gay content was being added to Transformers and that older relationship patterns were being changed. The X evidence came from small or anonymous accounts, and the anti-woke posts drew little engagement. No boycott, review-bombing drive, or large right-leaning campaign was found.
28%
Creator track record context
Tim Sheridan is an openly gay writer who often supports LGBTQ+ representation. Mae Catt has publicly discussed race and LGBTQ+ representation and concerns about token characters. Ted Biaselli is an openly gay Netflix executive who supports LGBTQ+ representation in family animation. The directors, showrunner, and most producers have records that focus on genre work and production rather than public activism.
