2023 · Based on 1 season, 7 episodes through August 24, 2023 ·
Erin Collantes lives in Barcelona with her husband, Jordi, and her daughter, Harper. She works as a substitute teacher and tries to hide the violent life she left in England. After Erin kills an armed robber during a supermarket raid, criminals and police begin to uncover her past. The seven-episode season mixes bloody action, family drama, school trouble, black humor, and a mystery about Erin’s name and loyalty.
Erin is shown as a woman who can teach, raise a child, work undercover, and defeat armed men much larger than herself. She remains the main answer to nearly every physical danger, while Jordi and several male police and crime figures mostly help her, fail her, or lose to her. The season also gives women the most important emotional turns, especially Erin’s bond with Lena and Penelope’s decision to leave her unfair husband. The show makes female strength and freedom easy to notice, but it presents them through crime, family, and survival instead of current political speeches.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Who Is Erin Carter?.
Woke representation / casting
Erin is written as a British woman from Folkestone, while Evin Ahmad is a Swedish-Kurdish actor who learned a British accent for the role. The story never gives Erin a Kurdish or Swedish background, so the lead casting adds a visible identity signal beyond her character history. The lead is also a mother, teacher, police officer, and top fighter, and interviews frame that mix as empowering. The international school and Barcelona setting make the wider mixed cast believable, so the signal is clear but not extreme.
44%
Woke political dialogue
Penelope says people expect her to be a good wife, mother, and neighbor while she stays quiet. She says people will try to silence them, and she then decides to ask her husband for a divorce. The finale gives this short scene a clear gender-role and personal-freedom message. The other episodes focus their dialogue on crime, family secrets, school trouble, and marriage.
25%
Identity-driven story themes
Erin wins most of the season’s physical fights, often against men who are larger or more numerous. The show also makes her the person who protects Harper, solves urgent problems, and keeps the family moving while Jordi and several male police and crime figures mainly help, fail, or lose. Lena joins Erin in the final rescue, and Penelope ends the season by choosing divorce and control over her life. The story presents female strength and freedom as good, but it does so through action and family drama rather than a full political program.
58%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Penelope’s subplot treats the role of wife and mother as a pressure that can trap her. She chooses divorce after speaking with Erin about silence and social expectations. The show gives this idea one brief subplot and does not repeat it as a broad attack on family, schools, police, or Western culture. The crime and police conflicts mainly serve the thriller story.
18%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series is an original story. It does not change an established character, canon, or real historical figure.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One season review called Erin a girlboss and said the show followed feminist ideals. The review also complained that she beats much larger men while male characters are weak or ineffective. A few reader comments repeated the female-superhuman and male-incompetence complaints. The X research pass found no anti-woke reaction, so this backlash is small and fringe.
18%
Creator track record context
Jack Lothian, the writers, most directors, and the producers have low cached scores and no strong activist record. Savina Dellicour has mild female-collaboration context. Luci Lenox has strong diversity work, and Gary Davy has supported diversity talent programs. Title interviews add empowerment language, but the wider creator context is mild.
