Frank Carver is a former mob enforcer who leaves prison after about two decades for a murder he did not commit. He has a fatal sleep disorder, so doctors say he may have only months to live. Frank wants to rebuild his bond with Joey, the son he missed, while he hunts the gang members who betrayed him. The film moves through an unnamed American-style city and mixes a grim crime story with family drama, dark humor, and sudden violence.
The story follows an older man facing guilt, lost time, illness, drug addiction, and the cost of revenge. Frank spends money, visits old criminal friends, and meets Simone, a sex worker who sees a softer side of him. The father and son bond drives the plot, even after the film reveals that Joey is already dead and Frank has been imagining their talks. Frank’s final choices bring regret, forgiveness, and death.

Not present. The characters talk about crime, revenge, fatherhood, drugs, and guilt. The film has no clear identity, DEI, or activist lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Frank’s main story concerns guilt, lost time, illness, and revenge. The father-son relationship does not build a modern identity or activist message.

Creator track record context
Shawn Ku has some earlier work related to Asian American and immigrant stories. His interviews for this film focus on fatherhood, regret, violence, and male behavior, not on representation or activism. John Newman, Nicolas Cage, and the other listed creators have little recorded identity-driven or political activity. This gives mild creator track record context, but it does not shape the film.
