Margot Hayes is a real estate agent in suburban Boston who expects her boyfriend Kip to propose before her sister’s New Year’s Eve wedding. Griffin Reed is a kind lawyer who plans to propose to his girlfriend Clementine, a social media influencer. Both relationships fall apart, and a wrong taxi ride takes Griffin to Margot’s nearly identical house during a storm. Margot asks Griffin to pretend to be Kip at the wedding, so two strangers spend a chaotic weekend learning what they really want.
The movie treats love as a mix of chance, honesty, and good timing. Margot and Griffin discover that they fit better than the partners they chose, even though they have known each other for only a short time. The wedding brings family jokes, drinking, lies, and a fight before the pair must decide whether their new bond is real. The light tone favors a traditional happy ending built around commitment, kindness, and trust.
