America: The Motion Picture is an adult animated comedy set in a wild version of the American Revolution. George Washington carries chainsaw arms and fights the British after a werewolf Benedict Arnold kills his best friend, Abraham Lincoln. Washington joins beer-loving Sam Adams, scientist Thomas Edison, Paul Revere, Geronimo, and John Henry. The team battles King James and tries to build a new country. The movie uses bloody fights, sex jokes, loud pop-culture jokes, and a proud but foolish tone.
The movie makes Thomas Edison a Chinese-American woman who is the team's smartest fighter and who pushes back when the men dismiss her. The story also gives important places to a native American Geronimo and a black blacksmith. A same-sex couple appears briefly, and the ending raises slavery, women's rights, Native land, gun control, health care, and gay rights. Some jokes call attention to white male privilege, racism, sexism, and the limits of freedom. These ideas appear through the team and the final argument, but the main story remains a crude parody about patriotism and famous historical figures.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for America: The Motion Picture.
Woke representation / casting
The cast puts an Asian woman in the major role of Thomas Edison, who is the team's science expert. The film also gives major heroic roles to Geronimo and the Blacksmith, while most of the main founders remain white men. The broad mix is part of the movie's visible design, but the story is a fantasy parody rather than a realistic period drama. The creators described Edison as a strong answer to the male team and as a character who challenges white privilege.
48%
Woke political dialogue
The characters argue over who belongs in the new country and whether it should serve rich white men. The ending brings up slavery, women's rights, Native land, gun control, health care, and gay rights. Characters also joke about racism, sexism, science, and the limits of freedom. These lines appear in several scenes and return in the final argument, even though the film treats them as crude comedy.
47%
Identity-driven story themes
Edison is a Chinese-American woman who faces dismissal from the white male founders and becomes the team's brain. Geronimo worries that the new nation will take Native land again. John Henry is a black small-business owner who talks about taxes and the new country's problems. The final debate links the founding story to modern identity and rights questions, but these themes support a chaotic parody rather than drive every scene.
48%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The movie treats the white male founders as foolish, racist, sexist, and unsure whether freedom should include everyone. The story jokes about gun culture, rich white men, women being pushed aside, Native land, and the country's failure to solve basic rights issues. The ending turns the new nation into a fight over slavery, gay rights, health care, and gun control. The satire mixes social criticism with jokes about nearly every side.
44%
Woke character or canon changes
Thomas Edison is changed from a historical white man into a Chinese-American woman. The movie makes her a central scientist and fighter, so the identity change affects the main team's story. Washington and Lincoln are also made best friends despite living in different periods, but that is a time change rather than an identity change. The Edison change is the clear woke canon change.
55%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few small X accounts called the movie woke or complained about its constant woke content. Reddit posts also called the Edison swap forced diversity, complained about identity changes, or called the movie super woke. A right-leaning Federalist review criticized the film's diverse citizens and said its makers mocked real patriotic Americans. The reaction stayed fringe, with no boycott, large campaign, or clear review-bombing effort.

Creator track record context
Callaham has worked on stories with Asian leads and has discussed avoiding Asian stereotypes, which is a mild identity-aware signal. Thompson, Tatum, Lord, Miller, Allegra, and Holman have no strong recorded activist history in the supplied background. Callaham also said the Edison change let him put an Asian face onscreen and reflect his experience in America.
