Belle Walker is a troubled teenager who moves with her single mother, younger sister, and comatose twin brother. The family rents the infamous Amityville house because the lower cost may help pay for James’s medical care. Strange events begin after James wakes and seems to recover, but Belle sees signs that something evil has entered his body. The film uses a dark horror tone and follows Belle as she tries to protect her family.
The story focuses on family grief, guilt, broken trust, faith, and fear of losing a loved one. Joan has stopped believing in God after her husband dies and James is badly hurt, so she tries to use the house’s evil power to save him. Belle’s school bullying and anger at her mother grow from personal troubles, including leaked private pictures. Belle must face both her brother’s possession and her mother’s dangerous choice before the family is destroyed.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Amityville: The Awakening.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main family and school group are shown as ordinary modern characters. The film does not frame the casting, the single mother, or the teen heroine as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on family grief, possession, medical care, and faith. The film does not use activist speeches or repeated political claims about race, gender, sexuality, or social systems.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Belle’s problems come from family guilt, bullying, and fear for her brother. The story follows a supernatural threat and a mother’s desperate choice rather than an identity-driven cause.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie uses Joan’s lost faith as a reason for her dangerous choice. The horror does not turn that faith conflict into a modern attack on Christianity, men, families, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film places earlier Amityville movies inside its own world and changes the continuity around them. That is a meta horror device, not an identity-driven change to established characters or history.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public reviews and Reddit discussions focus on weak scares, pacing, delays, and franchise quality. No meaningful anti-woke or right-leaning complaint about the title appeared in the searched coverage.

Creator track record context
Stored creator scores place Franck Khalfoun at 0/100 and Terri Taylor at 13/100. The listed producers are mostly low, with Jason Blum highest at 28/100. Blum’s public political comments and inclusion recognition give mild background context, but available coverage does not connect them to this film’s story or marketing.
