Batman: Hush follows Bruce Wayne, who fights crime as Batman while trying to keep his personal life under control. A hidden enemy called Hush turns many of Gotham's villains against him and attacks the people he trusts. The story moves through Gotham City, prisons, hospitals, rooftops, and secret hideouts. The tone is dark and violent, but it also makes room for jokes and a serious romance.
The film gives a large share of its time to Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle as they try to live and fight together. Their romance makes Bruce reveal his face, trust another criminal, and face the limits of his no-kill rule. Catwoman is a skilled partner who saves Batman, fights major villains, and argues with him as an equal. The main ideas are trust, love, obsession, guilt, and the question of whether Batman can stay human while living as a vigilante.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Batman: Hush.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film has a mixed voice cast, but it does not present that mix as a diversity message. Catwoman, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Amanda Waller are established characters in Gotham's comic-book world.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue covers crime, love, revenge, and Batman's moral code. It does not argue for modern identity, DEI, or activist ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The film includes a brief same-sex kiss while Poison Ivy controls Catwoman, but it does not give either woman a queer identity or build a queer relationship. The main emotional arc follows Bruce and Selina's trust and Batman's no-kill rule.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Gotham's criminals, prison officials, rich villains, and vigilantes drive the conflict. The film does not attack modern Western institutions, family life, religion, or traditional gender roles.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film changes the Hush reveal and moves the Batman and Catwoman romance forward. Those are ordinary plot and adaptation changes, not identity-based changes.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Searches on X found no anti-woke reaction. Web and fan discussion focused on the Hush twist, missing comic material, and the rushed breakup, not DEI or identity politics.
0%
Creator track record context
Most key creators have low recorded woke scores and no strong activist record. Jim Lee has supported broader diversity in comics, and James Tucker has spoken about diverse characters. Justin Copeland has expressed interest in telling No Man's Land through Cassandra Cain's view, while Ernie Altbacker later wrote an Indigenous-led Aztec Batman project. These points give mild background context, but none frames Batman: Hush as an activist film.
