Leonardo DiCaprio guides this documentary as he travels from Greenland and the Canadian oil sands to China, India, Indonesia, and the Pacific Islands. He meets scientists, farmers, local residents, business leaders, presidents, and Pope Francis. He studies melting ice, burned forests, dirty air, damaged crops, rising seas, and the loss of animals. The tone is worried and urgent, but it ends by pointing to cleaner energy and a chance to act.
The film makes climate change the main moral and political problem. It blames fossil fuel companies, lobby groups, political delay, and heavy consumption, then asks viewers to change what they eat, buy, and support. It backs the Paris Agreement, carbon taxes, renewable power, and voting for leaders who accept climate science. A brief exchange supports same-sex marriage as an example of public opinion changing politics, but LGBTQ content is not part of the main journey.

Identity-driven story themes
The film includes a brief statement that same-sex couples should be able to marry. It uses that point to show how public opinion can change political choices. The film also links climate danger to the identity and culture of island communities. These points are present, but they are not the main story.

Western institutional / cultural critique
The film says fossil fuel companies and lobby groups have shaped public debate and blocked climate laws. It shows officials who avoid the words climate change and links that silence to industry money. It criticizes wealthy countries’ energy use while poorer countries face the harm. It still supports carbon taxes, new technology, and international agreements instead of rejecting Western society as a whole.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Breitbart called the film “green propaganda” and attacked its climate message as a celebrity-led campaign. Some Reddit users mocked DiCaprio’s private travel, questioned his expertise, or criticized his UN role. Other viewers supported the film and said the attacks focused on hypocrisy rather than its evidence. The backlash was about climate politics and celebrity credibility, not race, gender, or queer content.
