Suburban parents leave their three kids with a last-minute babysitter who is not who she claims to be. The real sitter has been taken, and Emelie takes her place at the family home. She breaks rules, hurts the children, and plans to steal the youngest boy after losing her own baby. The oldest child fights back, and the night ends when help finally returns. The story is a babysitter horror film about trust, danger in the home, and a woman’s grief turned into a plan to take a child.
The film is not about race, diversity, or identity politics as its main point. Its real focus is stranger danger, maternal grief, and a fake sitter who becomes a threat. One short dress-up scene has Emelie tell the kids they do not have to be a boy or a girl and can be anything they want. That line comes from the villain while she pushes past normal limits. It is not a message the movie celebrates or builds a whole plot around.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Emelie.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Modern suburban U.S. family thriller with casting that reads as ordinary for the setting, not identity-statement casting.
0%
Woke political dialogue
One clear line during dress-up uses modern gender-flexible phrasing. The villain says kids do not have to be a boy or a girl and can be anything they want. It is a single beat while she erodes boundaries. It is not a sustained activist speech pattern.
15%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Story is impostor babysitter, maternal grief and psychosis, and child abduction, not identity or representation messaging as the plot engine.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Anxiety about trusting sitters is generic thriller material, not activist critique of Western institutions or traditional family as systemic evil.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Original feature screenplay, not an adaptation with identity-driven rewrites of legacy characters.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No documented right-leaning or anti-woke campaign treating the film as DEI or woke propaganda.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached summaries for the listed creatives show craft and indie-horror focus with no activist pattern. Interviews for the director and lead stay on genre craft and character psychology. They do not frame the film as social-justice work.
