Forgotten is a South Korean mystery thriller about a family moving into a new home. Jin-seok is a young man with mental health problems who looks up to his older brother, Yoo-seok. After strangers kidnap Yoo-seok, he returns 19 days later with no clear memory and a changed manner. Jin-seok follows clues through the house, the streets, and his own confused memories as the film shifts from quiet family suspense to grim crime drama.
The story is mainly about memory, guilt, grief, and the fear of losing trust in a family member. The later twists connect a past murder, a painful car crash, and money problems during South Korea’s 1997 financial crisis. The film shows how debt and fear can push damaged people toward terrible choices. The brothers remain at the center as the bleak ending deals with regret, responsibility, and the lasting harm of violence.

Western institutional / cultural critique
The ending links the murder plan to money pressure during South Korea’s 1997 IMF financial crisis.
