Good Kids follows Andy, Nora, Spice, and the Lion, four smart high school graduates in a seaside Massachusetts town. They are heading to Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, and Stanford, but they feel they missed the fun of high school. They spend their last summer at home trying sex, drugs, parties, and risky jobs before college begins. The tone is raunchy and silly, but friendship and young love sit under the jokes.
The story gives Nora a serious science job and lets her push back when Andy treats her love life as his business. Andy then faces his own double standard because he sleeps with older married women while warning Nora about an older man. These moments belong to a messy coming-of-age plot, not a larger campaign about identity or politics. The main themes are friendship, sexual curiosity, class differences between local teens and wealthy summer visitors, and learning that popularity was less real than the friends believed.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Good Kids.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Nora works in a marine lab, and the group includes characters from different backgrounds, but the film does not make casting a diversity message. The setting and roles do not show a clear representation-first pattern.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Andy and Danya briefly discuss books about development, freedom, and inequality. The exchange is a short joke between two bookish characters, and it does not become a story issue. The film does not use the talk to argue for modern activist politics.
8%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The film is about partying, sexual activity, drugs, friendship, and young love. It does not build its main conflict around race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or another identity cause.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Andy treats Nora’s relationship as his business and calls her older partner a creep. Andy ignores his own double standard because he is having sex with a 42-year-old woman. Nora rejects his control, and Spice points out the hypocrisy. The film keeps this as a short friendship and romance conflict rather than a wider attack on men, families, or Western institutions.
15%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original screenplay about four graduates. It does not change a known character, canon, or historical event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Search results show normal reviews about the film’s humor, pacing, sex-comedy plot, and acting. No substantial anti-woke complaint says the film pushes DEI, identity politics, or activist content.
0%
Creator track record context
Chris McCoy has no high-confidence record of activist or identity-driven work. Tineka Becker previously helped cast the gay-Muslim romance Breaking Fast. That earlier project gives a small context signal, but Good Kids has no matching queer or identity-focused content.
