Happy Gilmore 2 follows Happy Gilmore, a retired golf champion and widowed father. He has lost his money and turned to drinking after his wife Virginia dies in an accident. He returns to golf to pay for his daughter Vienna's ballet school and to keep a flashy new league from changing the sport. The movie mixes grief and family loyalty with loud jokes, old rivals, sports cameos, and broad slapstick.
The film has a few audience-visible references to modern social rules, but they are jokes rather than a main message. A character says that people cannot objectify women anymore, and a recovery-group speech jokes that Happy is making black people like golf again. The cast includes Bad Bunny as Happy's caddy and Kelsey Plum as a golf-course worker, but the story does not present their identity as a political cause. The main themes are family duty, marriage, grief, sobriety, traditional golf, and a man's return to purpose.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Right-leaning X posts called the film free of wokeness and praised it as a throwback. Other posts said the writers were sick of woke trash and expected the film to offend liberals. A few small accounts called the film woke, but those claims had little reach and did not point to a clear scene. The reaction produced no organized boycott or review-bombing wave.

Creator track record context
The cached creator notes give Kyle Newacheck a 7/100 woke score. His profile centers on broad comedy and support for less filtered jokes. The cached notes give Adam Sandler 3/100 and Tim Herlihy 4/100, with no activist pattern in their comedy work. Newacheck's title interview discussed callbacks, athletes, and Bad Bunny's comic chemistry, not representation or social-justice goals.
