This movie is a gentle comedy about an elderly widower named Milton who lives in a quiet town. A flying saucer crashes in his yard, and he befriends the silent alien inside. Two of his elderly neighbors soon find out and help him protect the alien from the government. The movie focuses mostly on friendship, growing old, and loneliness. However, it also includes a few modern identity-focused details. These include a minor plot about a character's lesbian daughter, a scene explaining same-sex relationships to the alien, and a themed T-shirt.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Jules.
Woke representation / casting
The core cast is normal for a small town. But there is a minor character who is a lesbian, shown in a photograph. Under our rules, any visible LGBTQ+ elements add extra weight to the representation score, even if they are only in the background.

Woke political dialogue
The film does not have heavy political talk. But it does have a scene where Sandy explains same-sex relationships directly to the alien. She tells the alien that same-sex love is something that has been happening a lot lately. This serves as a clear, identity-focused teaching moment.

Identity-driven story themes
The main themes are about growing old and feeling lonely. However, modern identity politics get a brief spotlight. Sandy uses the alien to talk about her acceptance of her daughter's lesbian relationship. She also dresses the alien in a shirt with a joke about having a girlfriend.
32%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film uses standard sci-fi tropes. Government agents try to track down the crashed spaceship, and there is light comedy about useless small-town politicians. It does not contain strong modern activist attacks on Western institutions, masculinity, or traditional families.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original screenplay and is not based on existing canon, legacy characters, or historical events.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
The movie had a quiet release and did not trigger large boycotts or major media controversy. However, some individual viewers did post complaints online. They felt the lesbian jokes and dialogue were forced and did not fit a family-friendly sci-fi movie.

Creator track record context
The creative team is mixed. Director Marc Turtletaub and writer Gavin Steckler have very low scores. However, the production company, Big Beach, is led by producers Alex Turtletaub and Michael B. Clark, who both have high scores for championing queer and feminist films.
