Noelle Posero is a shy graduate art student at a Southern California university. A classmate assaults her after inviting her to a party, and the school gives her little help when she tries to report it. After she accidentally kills him during a confrontation, Noelle begins hunting other men who escaped punishment for assault. She turns the killings into art while a detective and her friend Skye try to understand what she has become. The film is a grim, violent thriller that mixes campus drama, revenge, and dark humor.
The film makes female anger and revenge the center of its story. Noelle moves from fear and silence to control, sexual confidence, and deadly power. The movie repeatedly says that blaming women, excusing aggressive men, and weak school systems let attackers keep hurting women. It mocks campus safety groups that focus on hashtags, nail polish, and advice for women instead of stopping male violence. Its clearest identity-driven message says that institutions fail women and survivors should be believed, even though the story questions whether murder can heal survivors.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for M.F.A..
Woke representation / casting
The cast is a normal mixed group for a modern Southern California campus, so ethnicity does not stand out as a message. The film places a young woman in the central avenger role. Interviews and publicity also stress a female-led and empowering view, but the identity focus is limited to the lead.
18%
Woke political dialogue
The film has repeated dialogue about rape, consent, victim blaming, and what schools should do. A campus meeting argues that safety tips and hashtags put the burden on women instead of stopping male offenders. Other scenes say survivors should be believed and that the school has failed them. These ideas appear in several main scenes.
48%
Identity-driven story themes
Female trauma, anger, and self-empowerment drive the whole story. Noelle changes from a quiet student into a confident killer after the school fails to help her. She targets several men accused of assault and turns her violence into successful art. The film asks viewers to understand her rage and often keeps them on her side.
70%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Balboa University is shown hiding or ignoring reports of sexual assault. A counselor questions Noelle about drinking and whether she clearly said no. The film shows male athletes and fraternity members returning to normal life while women face shame and doubt. It also attacks advice about nail polish, whistles, and hashtags instead of stopping male violence.
67%

0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No reviewed source showed a clear anti-woke complaint, boycott, or review-bombing campaign. The supplied X check also found no anti-woke reaction.
