Krisha is a woman in her sixties who returns to her sister’s Texas home for Thanksgiving. She has been away from her family for years because of alcohol and drug addiction. She wants to cook the turkey, repair her bond with her son, and prove that she can be trusted again. The family welcomes her with love and caution, while the tense drama slowly turns into a frightening look at a mind coming apart.
The movie’s main focus is addiction and the damage it causes inside a family. Krisha hides pills, struggles with shame, and tries to control the day as old pain rises. Her son stays distant because her past choices hurt him, while her sister tries to protect both him and the family. The story shows the hard choice between sympathy and self-protection. The film uses sharp sound and horror-like tension to place the viewer inside Krisha’s fear.

Creator track record context
Trey Edward Shults has a cached score of 25/100 because his wider work includes diverse leads and he has discussed authenticity when a white director portrays black family dynamics. His interviews about Krisha focus on family addiction, grief, and empathy, not activist or DEI goals. The other cached crew scores range from 0 to 26, so the overall creator context is mild.
