Monday follows Chloe, an American immigration lawyer living in Athens, and Mickey, an American DJ who has stayed in Greece for years. They meet at a wild party, wake up naked on a beach, and turn a short fling into a fast relationship. Chloe wants a stable life, while Mickey avoids work, family duties, and hard choices. The film moves through repeated Fridays, clubs, beaches, apartments, and arguments before the couple faces the results of their choices. Its tone is sexual, funny, reckless, and sad.
The clearest woke elements come from Chloe's control over sex, relationships, and an abortion she keeps private until late in the story. The film also makes Chloe the practical worker and often presents Mickey as childish, unreliable, and in need of help, while women around him speak plainly about his failures. The story treats female desire and bodily choice as normal parts of adult life, without turning them into a speech or a full political plot. These ideas matter to the relationship drama, yet the film remains mainly a messy romance about desire, bad choices, and responsibility.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Monday.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main couple are American expats, and the Greek supporting cast fits the Athens setting. The film does not frame its cast as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on sex, work, drinking, family, and relationship problems. It does not contain repeated activist, DEI, or identity-political lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The film gives Chloe a successful legal career and makes her the more careful partner. Chloe chooses an abortion without asking Mickey to approve the decision. The story also shows women setting limits and calling out Mickey's childish behavior, while he remains unreliable as a worker, partner, and father. These ideas recur through the relationship, but the movie stays focused on desire and personal failure rather than a broad activist message.
43%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows an abusive ex, an unreliable father, and a troubled couple. It does not turn those problems into a broad attack on Western institutions, religion, family life, or traditional society.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Monday is an original relationship story, not an adaptation or a story about a real historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No clear anti-woke, anti-DEI, or anti-identity complaint was located in the searched coverage or fan discussion. The provided X pass also reports no anti-woke reaction.

Creator track record context
Papadimitropoulos has a low recorded woke score and usually studies loneliness, sex, class, aging, and modern relationships without a lecture-like message. Hayes has a higher recorded score because Chewing Gum deals with race, class, sex, and sexuality. The producers have mostly low or middle recorded scores, with Barillari showing the strongest socially aware record. This gives the title mild supporting context, not a strong activist creator pattern.
