Matt Teague is a writer and father living in Fairhope, Alabama, with his wife Nicole and their two daughters. Nicole learns that her cancer is terminal, and the family struggles to face her final months. Their longtime friend Dane moves into their home to help with childcare, housework, and care. The film uses a sad but warm tone as it moves between different years.
The film gives strong attention to men showing fear, grief, and care for one another. Dane treats caregiving as a brave act, while Matt slowly learns to accept help. The story also shows how illness damages a marriage and places pressure on a family. Its main message is that friendship and shared care can help people survive deep loss.
