Muppets Haunted Mansion follows Gonzo and Pepe on Halloween night as they try to stay inside a haunted mansion until sunrise. Gonzo accepts the challenge because the mansion is tied to the disappearance of his favorite magician, the Great MacGuffin. A ghost host sends Gonzo into a hidden room where he must face the fear beneath his fearless act. Pepe gets pulled into a comic wedding with Constance Hatchaway, a bride who plans to kill him. The tone mixes spooky images, songs, fast jokes, and many Muppet cameos.
The special gives prominent supporting roles to black women and uses Black, Asian, Latino, and White performers among its ghosts and cameos. The Muppet characters still carry the story, so the casting works mostly as a visible background choice. Gonzo learns that he fears losing his friends and that he does not need dangerous stunts to be valued. The main lesson is that courage means facing fear and helping a friend. Pepe's romance is played as silly horror, while the familiar Muppets and Haunted Mansion jokes carry most of the special.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Muppets Haunted Mansion.
Woke representation / casting
The special gives two prominent human roles to black women, Yvette Nicole Brown as the hearse driver and Taraji P. Henson as the bride. Darren Criss plays the caretaker, while Black, Asian, Latino, and White performers appear among the ghosts and singing busts. This creates a clear mixed-cast pattern in a short special. The Muppets remain the main focus, and the casting is not turned into a political speech.

Creator track record context
Jim Henson's older educational work used mild humanist, environmental, and multicultural ideas. That background is softer and older than modern identity activism. The other key creators are mainly linked to puppetry, comedy, and franchise work, with no clear activist framing for this special.
