Philip is a disgraced children's puppeteer who returns to the ruined Norfolk home where he grew up. He carries a strange spider puppet called Possum in a brown bag and tries to destroy it. His uncle Maurice still lives there and keeps pulling him back toward painful memories. The film uses empty marshes, broken buildings, quiet rooms, and harsh electronic sounds to create a slow, bleak horror mood.
The story deals with childhood abuse, fear, shame, guilt, and damage that can last for years. Philip's puppet acts like a sign of the past he cannot throw away. A missing boy, old fires, dead parents, and a locked room connect his present fear to what happened when he was young. The film keeps the truth partly unclear, so viewers must decide how much is real and how much comes from Philip's damaged mind.
