Sam Rossi runs the Sweet Virginia motel in a remote Alaskan town. The former rodeo rider has a weak arm and a shaking hand after an injury, and he tries to live quietly. A triple murder brings Elwood, a violent drifter and hired killer, into Sam’s motel. Sam’s friendship with Elwood pulls him into danger, guilt, and another burst of violence. The movie has a dark, slow, and tense tone.
The film follows people who hide their pasts and make bad choices under pressure. Sam is tied to Bernadette, the widow of one murder victim, while Elwood waits for payment from Lila after her plan fails. Maggie gives Sam a chance to act like the father he was not able to be. The story uses sex, family loss, faith talk, and harsh violence to explore loneliness, regret, and the cost of starting over.
