Jessica Wright lives in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with her father and high school friends. One year after a deadly Thanksgiving night shopping riot, a killer wearing a John Carver mask hunts people connected to the riot. Jessica investigates the murders while her friends, family, and former boyfriend face holiday themed killings. The film combines a murder mystery with cruel jokes, fast chases, and graphic gore.
The film briefly mentions modern identity language through a school joke about Indigenous history and Thanksgiving. The story also criticizes Black Friday shopping culture by showing shoppers hurt and kill each other for cheap goods. The opening connects the violence to greed, low wages, wealthy store owners, and lost middle class stability. Jessica becomes the main survivor through careful thinking, evidence, and courage. Personal loss, betrayal, revenge, and slasher violence matter more than the film's brief social commentary.

Western institutional / cultural critique
The film blames a store's Thanksgiving sale and a crowd's greed for the opening deaths. The story shows shoppers killing for cheap goods while the store owner pushes the sale. Eli Roth links the violence to low wages and wealthy people keeping the money. The movie gives that idea a short role before returning to personal revenge.
