Keira Woods moves with her husband and two children into a huge old house in the Irish countryside. Her teenage daughter Ellie vanishes after entering the dark cellar during a power cut. Keira follows strange numbers, old symbols, and the house's past as she tries to bring Ellie home. The movie uses slow, dark haunted-house scenes before a late chase through a demon's strange world.
Keira leads the search because her husband first doubts that the house is evil. Her courage comes from her role as a mother, and the family remains the heart of her choices. The story also gives Keira and Brian a dishonest advertising business that uses fear to influence people who are easy to scare. The story ties their bad fate to that work, but it spends far more time on family fear, guilt, old magic, and the power of the house.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Cellar.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The cast is a mostly white modern family and local Irish characters. Keira runs an advertising company and leads the rescue, but the story grounds her strength in being a mother who protects her children. The movie does not present her gender as a representation message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters discuss ad campaigns, the missing children, math clues, and the demon. The movie gives no political speeches or modern activist claims.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The main themes are parental guilt, family love, fear, and a demon's control. No plot is built around race, sex, sexuality, or another identity claim.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Keira and Brian use fear to sell products, and the story treats that work as a personal moral flaw. The movie does not turn this into a wider attack on capitalism, the West, family, men, or religion. The old religious signs serve the demon plot rather than a message against Christianity.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie expands the director's own short film without making an identity-driven change to an established character or real person.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public reviews and audience threads argued about the slow pace, weak scares, math clues, and grim ending. No clear complaint accused the movie of pushing woke, DEI, feminist, queer, or left-wing politics.

Creator track record context
Writer-director Brendan Muldowney has a creator score of 0 and no known activist pattern. Most listed producers have scores from 0 to 10. Lesley McKimm has 23 for women-led industry work, while Patrick O'Neill has 30 for backing Kneecap and Irish-language politics. The group record is mostly low, and the movie does not match the two higher signals.
