Harry Lynch lives on Block Island and helps care for his sick father, Tom, who works as a fisherman. Tom begins to lose time, take his boat out at night, and act in violent and frightening ways. Dead fish and birds wash onto the shore while Harry and his sister Audry try to learn whether the cause is illness, nature, or something from the sea. The movie uses a slow, gray horror style that mixes family grief with a strange science fiction mystery.
Audry returns from the mainland to study the dead wildlife, and her science work gives the family useful clues. Harry struggles with anger, alcohol, guilt, and the fear that he will become like his father. The story compares human research on fish with the chance that a higher force is studying people in the same cold way. A few lines mention government testing and vaccines, but they belong to a conspiracy-minded character, while the main story stays focused on grief, family duty, fear, and the small place humans hold in nature.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Block Island Sound.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The movie shows a local white fishing family and supporting island workers. Audry's science job fits the plot, and the movie does not present its casting as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue includes a character's conspiracy claims about vaccines and the government, but it does not push identity, gender, DEI, or activist ideas. Other talk is about family, illness, fishing, and the strange force.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on grief, illness, family duty, and a strange force from the sea. The comparison between human research on fish and higher beings studying people concerns nature and human limits, not modern identity politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie does not attack traditional family life, men, women, Christianity, capitalism, or Western institutions. A wild character blames the government for strange events, but the movie treats this as conspiracy talk, not an activist argument.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original story about a Rhode Island fishing family. It has no established characters, source material, or historical figures whose identity is changed.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Available public discussion centers on pacing, the ending, and whether the movie is scary. The supplied X research found no anti-woke reaction, and broader searches found no clear complaints about woke or DEI content.
0%
Creator track record context
The directors are mainly known for horror, science fiction, comedy, and television writing. Their stored creator scores are 6/100 for Kevin and 4/100 for Matthew. No known public work or statements link them to identity-driven activism. This gives the title only a very small creator track record context score.
