Manco Kapak is an Albanian nightclub owner in Los Angeles whose club launders money for a Mexican cartel. After a heart attack, he wants to sell the club and retire with Sunny, his girlfriend. Masked thieves rob him, and a corrupt detective pushes one of them, Jeff, into another crime. Jeff is a nervous college professor, while bank teller Carrie joins him because she loves Point Break and wants the thrill of a robbery. An undercover FBI agent and cartel threats tie their plans together in a crime thriller with dry jokes, gun violence, and choices that make each crisis worse. Carrie eagerly takes the lead in repeated robberies, while Jeff often hesitates and follows her. She shoots a club worker during their last robbery, then panics when the killing feels real. Her side story puts a woman in the robber and killer role, and the film follows her fear and guilt after the shooting. The film also makes Manco Albanian, a change director Derrick Borte says Russell Crowe suggested from the novel’s Hungarian background.
