Richard Pace is a famous thief who escapes a high-security prison and gets pulled into a new job. He joins Ringo, Violet, Wick, the Prince, and his estranged daughter Hope. The crew plans to steal gold from a prison in the fictional country of Jazeristan, which is shown through Abu Dhabi locations. The film mixes fast car chases, jokes, explosions, and a father and daughter trying to repair their relationship.
The crew calls itself a group of modern Robin Hoods, and it targets criminals that it sees as worse than itself. Violet is a deadly fighter, and the film introduces her with “girl power” language and jokes about her dislike of men. The team also uses a visibly international lineup, with Black, Asian, Thai, Middle Eastern, and white members in important roles. Hope works as a humanitarian and helps drive the mission, while the men also carry major skills and story duties. The movie presents the heist as a good deed because the gold funds terrorists and the stolen money goes to UNICEF, but the main focus stays on action, crime, and family repair.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Misfits.
Woke representation / casting
The main crew uses a visibly international lineup, with Black, Asian, Thai, Middle Eastern, and white leads in key roles. The director said he wanted a versatile cast, an Asian character, and strong female characters. The global heist setting gives the mix a clear story reason, so the identity signal stays mild.
28%
Woke political dialogue
The film calls Violet’s fighting ability “girl power” in its introduction. Violet also says that she does not date men because she kills them. These lines are short jokes and do not turn the heist into a wider political speech.
26%
Identity-driven story themes
The film treats Violet as a deadly fighter and gives her repeated jokes about not trusting or dating men. Hope also takes an active role in planning the mission and pushes Richard to join. The women drive or win several important moments, although the men also have major skills. The story still centers on a gold heist and a father-daughter repair.
30%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film makes a private prison owner the main villain and says he uses his prisons to hide money for terrorists. The crew also says the United States overlooks wrongdoing by an ally because it needs a military base there. These points give the movie a mild anti-prison and anti-government edge, but they work as heist plot devices rather than a repeated critique of Western society.
12%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original heist story with no established character, franchise canon, or historical figure being changed.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Reported backlash focused on claims that the film attacked Qatar and on the movie’s poor quality. No anti-woke or DEI complaints were found.
0%
Creator track record context
Harlin has a cached score of 3/100 and a commercial action background. Wimmer and Henny also have low cached scores and no known activist record. Most producers have low scores, with limited representation-focused context from two producers. The group adds only a small signal.
