Goreng enters a strange prison called the Vertical Self-Management Center, where two people share each floor of a tower. Each day, a table of rich food drops from the top, so people on the upper floors eat first and those below receive scraps or nothing. The floors change each month, which leaves Goreng unsure whether he is lucky, guilty, or doomed. The film uses harsh violence, black humor, and shocking images as he tries to survive and understand the system.
The main woke element is a strong class and wealth message. Goreng and Baharat try to force equal food sharing, while the film presents greed, special advantage, and the prison's management system as parts of a wider social order. Several characters speak about solidarity, fair rations, and changing the system, so the political idea keeps returning instead of appearing in one speech. The film also includes a visibly mixed group of prisoners, including a black ally and an East Asian woman, but it does not build its story around race, gender, or queer identity.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Platform.
Woke representation / casting
The film gives Baharat, a black prisoner, a major role beside Goreng. The film also gives Miharu, an East Asian prisoner, a recurring role in the prison. The story does not present either identity as a political cause or as a special achievement. The mixed prison population is visible, but it is not a main theme.
15%
Woke political dialogue
Goreng and Imoguiri repeatedly discuss equal rations, solidarity, the Administration, and whether people can change the system. Goreng calls for a shared plan and later uses force to make prisoners pass food down. The film also links a preserved dessert with a message to those in charge. The dialogue is about class and wealth, not race, gender, or queer politics.
45%
Identity-driven story themes
The story turns food distribution into a direct picture of social classes. It treats greed and special advantage as system-wide problems and makes collective sharing the main answer Goreng tries to deliver. The story also questions whether violent action can create fair treatment, so the message is not simple. The theme is strongly anti-capitalist and built around equal sharing, but it is not centered on race, gender, or queer identity.
63%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film presents the Vertical Self-Management Center as a cruel institution that sorts people into changing social levels. The upper floors consume without regard for those below, while the Administration hides behind rules and claims the system can create solidarity. Goreng's plan attacks the system through forced redistribution and a public message. The film uses Bible images and a messiah joke, but it does not directly attack Christianity.
68%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story with no established characters, source canon, or real historical figures being changed.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Some free-market and right-leaning reviewers called the film quasi-Marxist, socialist, or propaganda because it attacks capitalism and favors equal sharing. Those complaints focus on the film's class message, not race, gender, or queer representation. The criticism is visible in online commentary but appears niche beside the larger debate about the ending and social allegory.

Creator track record context
The cached context rates Gaztelu-Urrutia at 58 and shows repeated concern with class, inequality, and power. The cached writer and producer summaries also show repeated stories about social systems, exclusion, migration, and unequal wealth. The co-director and technical crew have no recorded activist pattern. The team therefore has a clear social-critique background, but the record does not show a strong DEI or queer focus.
