Jacob Kanon is a New York police detective whose daughter and her new husband are killed on their honeymoon in London. He crosses Europe to track the killers after postcards warn local reporters before each murder. Jacob works with Dessie Lombard, a U.S. journalist based in Sweden, and police officers from several countries. The movie has a grim crime-story tone, with bodies arranged to copy famous works of art.
Jacob’s grief drives the search and makes him reckless with police rules. Dessie uses her knowledge of art and the postcards to help identify the killers’ next move. The brother and sister killers target young married couples because their hidden relationship and childhood abuse have left them bitter and violent. The story links their crimes to revenge, family trauma, and a twisted view of art.
