Kristian Eikjord is a geologist who lives alone in Geiranger after surviving the tsunami in The Wave. Guilt and post-traumatic stress have damaged his marriage and his bond with his two children, who now live in Oslo with Idun. When a fellow geologist dies and new tremors appear, Kristian believes a huge earthquake is coming. The film builds slowly through cold Norwegian scenery before turning into a tense fight for survival inside a collapsing Oslo hotel.
The story gives its strongest attention to family duty, grief, and a father trying to repair the harm caused by his obsession. Kristian remains the main expert and rescuer, while Idun works to keep Julia safe and Marit helps him follow her father's evidence. His former colleagues dismiss Kristian as unstable, so he must prove that the danger is real before the city can react. The emotional center is the cost of trauma and the choice to protect loved ones when buildings, trust, and time are falling apart.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Quake.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast is a typical Norwegian family and local work group. The film does not frame its casting as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue covers earthquakes, trauma, family strain, and survival. It does not push modern identity, DEI, or activist ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story focuses on PTSD, guilt, family repair, scientific warning, and survival. Its father-daughter material remains personal rather than identity-driven.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Former colleagues dismiss Kristian’s warnings and the father acts badly toward his family. The film uses these conflicts for suspense and family drama, not modern activist criticism of men, family roles, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. It continues Kristian, Idun, Sondre, and Julia from The Wave. The new character Marit does not change an established identity or canon role.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke complaints, and web audience debate focuses on pace, plot holes, effects, and family drama. Praise for the film’s disaster style is approval, not backlash.
0%
Creator track record context
Two writers often write about outsiders, environmental danger, and people facing hard social problems. The director and producers mainly make technical genre films and have little public activist work. The script supervisor has a long feminist activist history, but that job does not shape the film’s story or message. This gives the title mild creator track record context, not a strong identity-political signal.
