Kenny Lustig is a caring but stubborn Long Island builder who wants to give his daughter Sarah a perfect wedding. Sarah is marrying Tyler, the son of wealthy Los Angeles heart doctor Kirby Cordice. Kenny refuses Kirby’s money, so he tries to build a cheap wedding that still looks grand. Hotel damage, crowded family rooms, a death, and other disasters turn the final week into a loud, crude, and uneven comedy.
The film shows a Jewish bride’s family joining a black groom’s family, but the marriage is treated as normal and is not a story problem. The script makes a few jokes about race, Jewish identity, vegetarianism, and whether Sarah is a lesbian. These details stay inside the family comedy and do not become a political message. The main lesson is that parents should stop competing, accept help, and value family love more than money or status.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Week Of.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film uses a Jewish bride’s family and a black groom’s family in a modern American wedding. That mix fits the setting, and the story does not present it as a diversity goal.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The script includes a few race, Jewish, lesbian, and politics jokes. The jokes do not argue for modern identity, gender-role, DEI, or activist ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story is about two fathers dealing with money, pride, aging, and family pressure before a wedding. The couple’s identities do not create an activist conflict or a lesson about group power.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film mocks a mayor, hotel staff, rich spending, and family habits for comedy. It does not build a modern attack on men, family life, Christianity, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original wedding story, so it does not change an established character, canon, or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No anti-woke complaint was found in the researched web coverage or the separate X check. Public complaints centered on the film’s length, jokes, and weak story.
0%
Creator track record context
Robert Smigel’s cached context includes late-night political satire and the older Ambiguously Gay Duo cartoon. Adam Sandler’s cached context is mainly broad comedy, and the cached producers and casting directors have low scores. Interviews about this film describe a grounded, family-centered comedy, not an activist project.
