Tramps follows Danny, a shy young Polish-American man who lives with his mother in Astoria, Queens. His jailed brother asks him to deliver a briefcase, but Danny gives it to the wrong woman. Danny and Ellie, a broke driver from Pittsburgh, must recover the case while moving through New York and the nearby suburbs. Their risky trip becomes a light, awkward romance about two young people trying to escape stuck lives.
The film presents Ellie as the clear-headed partner while Danny is kind, hopeful, and often clumsy. Ellie wants to leave a bad relationship, refuses to be judged for her past, and helps decide what the pair does. Danny’s mistakes create most of the danger, and he follows Ellie when she chooses a new destination. These repeated gender roles create a noticeable identity-driven message, but the movie keeps that message inside a personal romance instead of turning it into a political speech.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Tramps.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The lead pair is a Polish-American man and a young woman from Pittsburgh. The New York setting includes a mixed supporting cast, but the film does not present that mix as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Ellie asks Danny who he is to judge her sexual history. Danny says that having many partners would not make her a whore. This short exchange rejects sexual shaming, but it does not become a repeated political speech.
15%
Identity-driven story themes
The movie repeatedly makes Ellie the sharper and more decisive partner. She sets boundaries, keeps the plan moving after Danny’s mistake, bargains for her share, and chooses the next place they will go. Danny causes the failed handoff, gets lost, and follows her lead, while other men often treat Ellie as a tool or a prize. This gender-role pattern matters to the romance, even though the film does not make identity politics its main subject.
50%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Ellie describes a bad relationship and says she is not used to nice men. Darren and Scott treat her as a tool, question her motives, and try to cut her out of the payment. A rich woman jokes that men make simple plans too complicated and warns Ellie not to marry a man who does not love his mother. These moments criticize male behavior, but the film does not attack Western institutions or build a larger social argument.
28%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original modern romance and crime story. It does not change an established character, story, or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The separate X search found no anti-woke posts, boycott talk, or right-leaning defense of the movie. Wider searches found no meaningful backlash saying that the film pushes woke, DEI, or identity politics.
0%
Creator track record context
Adam Leon often follows working-class and racially mixed young people, but his public profile is not strongly activist. Jamund Washington has a stronger record of black representation, queer visibility, and anti-racist work in other projects. The producers and casting director have no clear public activist profile. Tramps itself is a small romance and crime story, so this background supports a moderate score rather than a dominant one.
