Burt Gummer is a hard-headed survivalist who hunts giant Graboids for a living. He travels with his son Travis to a remote research station in Canada after deadly worm attacks kill workers. The Arctic is warm enough for the creatures to thrive, and Burt soon learns that venom from one of them is killing him. The group must trap a live Graboid and use its venom to make a cure before Burt dies. The story mixes monster danger, crude jokes, family conflict, and old-fashioned action.
The research team includes women in science, leadership, and pilot jobs, but the movie treats their skills as part of the adventure instead of turning them into a political message. The opening mentions an Arctic heatwave, melting glaciers, and a “new normal,” which gives the setting a brief climate-change message. The film spends more time on Burt’s anger at taxes, his fear of losing control, and his growing bond with Travis. The ending rewards teamwork when the group captures a Graboid, saves Burt, and stops a government plan to turn the creature into a weapon.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film gives women science, leadership, and pilot jobs, but it treats those jobs as normal parts of the international research team. The story does not frame the casting as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
The opening calls an Arctic heatwave the “new normal.” Characters also mention melting glaciers and unusually warm conditions. The film uses this brief climate-change message to explain the setting, but it does not build a wider political speech around it. Burt’s tax and DARPA jokes are anti-government humor, not a sustained identity or left-wing argument.
15%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story follows a monster hunt, Burt’s illness, and a father-son bond. The characters are not built around identity politics, queer themes, or activist representation.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film mocks the IRS and DARPA and treats a possible government weapon project as a danger. Those are old-fashioned anti-government and science-fiction plot jokes, not a modern activist critique of Western culture, gender, family, or social norms.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film adds Valerie McKee as the daughter of Val and Rhonda and continues Burt and Travis from earlier sequels. The change supports franchise continuity and is not an identity-driven rewrite.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X research found no anti-woke reaction or named complaints. Wider reviews and fan posts focus on the plot, effects, humor, and repetition instead of woke or DEI messaging.
