What Did Jack Do? is a 17-minute black-and-white mystery set in a locked train station café. A homicide detective played by David Lynch questions Jack Cruz, a capuchin monkey accused of killing a man named Max. Jack answers with strange jokes, farm talk, and half-clear stories about his first wife and a chicken named Toototabon. The short feels like a dusty crime film that keeps slipping into absurd comedy, with a tense and eerie mood under the jokes.
The main story follows a fight over love, jealousy, and guilt, even though the people involved include a monkey, several chickens, and other animals. Jack says that Toototabon was his first true love, and the detective tries to learn whether Jack killed Max because of her. The short includes adult language, sexual jokes, a brief question about Communist Party membership, and a rough love song. Those details create a strange parody of old detective movies, while the waitress and the unseen police keep the small station world moving.

Creator track record context
David Lynch’s other work includes a lesbian relationship in Mulholland Drive and a transgender law-enforcement character in Twin Peaks: The Return. His public profile is not strongly tied to DEI or identity politics. Sabrina S. Sutherland is mainly known for supporting Lynch’s independent work and has no strong activist profile. These specific earlier examples support a low creator track record context score.
