Tyler is a high school student in Los Angeles who argues with his girlfriend, Ali, after learning about her past. During the short breakup, he meets Holly at a party, takes drugs with her, and spends the night with her. Tyler returns to Ali the next day, but Holly joins his school and treats the hookup as the start of a relationship. The movie is a glossy teen thriller about cheating, obsession, secrets, and danger.
The movie gives a supporting friend, Lydia, a lesbian identity, but her sexuality does not drive the plot. The story also touches on sexual double standards because Tyler judges Ali’s past while hiding his own hookup. Holly calls Tyler out for using her, yet the movie mainly turns her anger into a stalking and violence plot. Women control much of the action, while Tyler is often passive, but the movie does not build this into a wider activist message.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for You Get Me.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film uses a mixed modern Los Angeles high-school cast, including a lesbian friend, but it does not present the casting as a diversity goal. No lead role is visibly built around identity signaling or a casting mismatch.
0%
Woke political dialogue
The film has brief lines about sexual double standards. Holly tells Tyler that he used her after he returns to Ali. Tyler also attacks Ali over her earlier sexual history. These moments raise a gender issue, but the film does not repeat an activist speech or political claim.
14%
Identity-driven story themes
The film includes Lydia as a lesbian friend in the group. Her identity is not a major subplot, and no same-sex romance drives the story. Holly and Ali control much of the action, while Tyler is often passive and makes the key mistake. These are noticeable identity and gender elements, but the main message remains about cheating and obsession.
27%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Tyler’s anger over Ali’s sexual past shows a small critique of male entitlement and sexual double standards. Holly directly blames him for using her. The film also makes Tyler passive while Holly and Ali control the major confrontations. It does not connect these issues to patriarchy, institutions, religion, or a wider political claim.
18%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original teen thriller with no established characters, franchise canon, or real historical figures to change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Reviews and audience posts focused on weak writing, poor suspense, sex, drugs, and the stalker plot. No identifiable anti-woke backlash was found, and the separate X pass found no complaints.
0%
Creator track record context
Bonacorso and Epstein have no clear activist pattern in the stored summaries. Most producers have low or no known activist signals. Bella Thorne has public feminist and social-justice views, but this film is not framed around those views. The overall creator context is mild.
