Kate McKinnon

Personal context

Summary

Kate McKinnon is an actor, comedian, and writer known for a decade on Saturday Night Live, where her character work and impressions included Hillary Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and many other public figures. Her comedy ranges from offbeat original characters to political satire, and she has played LGBTQ characters on The Big Gay Sketch Show and SNL. At the 2020 Golden Globes, she said seeing Ellen DeGeneres come out on television helped her accept that she was gay and imagine a life in television; in 2022, she used Weekend Update to criticize Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law. Her public record includes these LGBTQ-focused statements, but no sustained campaign or organizational advocacy is on record.
