DC League of Super-Pets is a bright animated adventure set in Metropolis. Krypto the Super-Dog has always been Superman’s closest friend, but he struggles when Superman starts spending more time with Lois Lane. When Lulu, a powerful guinea pig, captures Superman and the Justice League, Krypto must work with shelter animals who have just gained powers. The movie uses jokes, colorful superhero action, and a warm tone while it follows the animals through danger and loss.
The clearest woke element is a short early scene that says a dog’s owner has a fiancée and shows two women together. The film also presents Jessica Cruz as Green Lantern, but her role is an established DC character and not a new story about gender or race. The couple does not join the rescue or receive a character arc. The main story follows Krypto, Ace, PB, Merton, and Chip as they learn friendship, teamwork, loyalty, and self-sacrifice. The movie also encourages viewers to adopt shelter pets, but it does not turn that message into a wider political argument.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for DC League of Super-Pets.
Woke representation / casting
The movie shows two women kissing and identifies them as engaged in a short park scene. The Justice League also includes Jessica Cruz as a prominent female Green Lantern, but she is an established DC character rather than a new gender swap. The voice cast and heroes include several races, but the modern Metropolis setting makes that mix plausible. These choices give the film a visible but limited representation signal.
25%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters do not make activist or political arguments. The jokes and conflict stay focused on superheroes, pets, and rescue.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The main characters do not have identity-based goals or arcs. Their growth centers on friendship, teamwork, loyalty, and sacrifice.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The villain’s wealth and lab experiments create ordinary superhero conflict. The film does not build a modern activist critique of capitalism, patriarchy, religion, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie uses established DC figures such as Jessica Cruz as Green Lantern and reworks the Justice League for a pet-centered adventure. No identity-driven rewrite of a legacy character shapes the story.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Some Christian and conservative parent reviews called the brief same-sex couple scene a woke or agenda message. One review also complained that Green Lantern changed from a white male into a black woman, although DC identifies the film’s hero as the established character Jessica Cruz. Small online posts made similar complaints about the couple, Jessica Cruz’s design, and diversity in the Justice League. No boycott, review-bomb drive, or major right-leaning campaign was found.

Creator track record context
Most key creators are known for mainstream comedy, family films, and animation, with no clear activist record. Producer Nicholas Stoller is a notable exception because he co-wrote and directed Bros and has spoken about queer representation. That background gives the title some supporting context, but this film does not make queer identity its main story.
