Rebecca Hall

Personal context

Summary

Rebecca Hall is a British-American actor, writer, director, and producer whose work includes Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Christine, and her directorial debut Passing. Her screen work often explores secrecy, identity, and women’s inner lives; she has described adapting Passing as a way to understand her family’s history of racial passing and her mixed-race heritage. In 2018, after reconsidering her work with Woody Allen in light of Dylan Farrow’s allegations, Hall donated her salary from his film to Time’s Up and apologized for having made Farrow feel silenced. She also signed Film Workers for Palestine’s pledge to boycott Israeli film institutions it considers complicit in genocide and apartheid.
