Christine

Christine is an independent biographical drama about Sarasota TV reporter Christine Chubbuck, who died by suicide on live air in 1974. The story follows her untreated depression, loneliness, and career frustration. Her station pushes human-interest work toward sensational crime news. She also faces ovary surgery that threatens her chance at biological children, a crush on co-anchor George, living with her mother after a prior breakdown, and losing a Baltimore promotion.

Audience-visible woke content is limited and secondary. Workplace clashes include the boss dismissing Christine as a feminist and pressure for crime coverage over her serious pieces. A secondary strand shows a driven woman belittled in a male-run 1970s newsroom, which critics and Hall often read as workplace misogyny. The film critiques ratings-driven local TV and casual newsroom sexism while still keeping mental illness central. It is not built on race politics, queer-identity politics, or a present-day attack on Western institutions as the main point.
