Richard Ayoade

Personal context

Summary

Richard Ayoade is an actor, comedian, writer, and director known for The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Submarine, and The Double. His work often uses deadpan humor and follows awkward or isolated characters, with Submarine focusing on adolescent self-consciousness and The Double on loneliness and identity. No public statements on identity politics, DEI, or activism are on record. In 2023, he endorsed Graham Linehan’s memoir, and in a 2024 interview described Linehan as a “man of great principle”; those remarks do not establish Ayoade’s own position on transgender issues.
