Personal context
Salma Hayek Pinault is a Mexican-American actor and producer known for films including Desperado, Frida, and From Dusk Till Dawn, as well as television work including Ugly Betty. Her work spans action, comedy, and biographical drama; she produced and starred in Frida, a long-developed project about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. For more than two decades, she has publicly advocated for women’s rights and against domestic violence: she helped bring Avon’s domestic violence campaign to the company, co-founded Chime for Change, served on the Kering Foundation’s board, spoke at the United Nations on violence against women, and publicly shared her experience of Harvey Weinstein’s harassment during the #MeToo era. No prominent public record of partisan campaigning or race- or LGBTQ-focused advocacy is on record.
