Disgraced bodyguard Michael Bryce must escort notorious hitman Darius Kincaid from the UK to The Hague. Kincaid will testify against Belarusian dictator Vladislav Dukhovich at the ICC so his wife Sonia can be freed. The story is a classic action buddy comedy full of banter, chases, and a high body count. Love, forgiveness, teamwork, and whether killers and protectors can act ethically drive the character arcs.
What the audience sees is modern star casting more than identity-first messaging. Samuel L. Jackson is the co-lead hitman, Salma Hayek is his Latina wife, and Élodie Yung plays a French-Cambodian Interpol agent in a competent authority role. Their interracial marriage motivates the deal to free Sonia, but it plays as personal romance, not a lecture. The film has almost no activist talk, and Christian details such as a murdered preacher father, a Bible line about revenge, and nuns with Jesus imagery appear on screen.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Hitman's Bodyguard.
Woke representation / casting
The cast is diverse in a modern star-led way. Jackson, Hayek, and Yung hold major roles, and the interracial marriage is clear on screen. That still fits ordinary commercial casting from the 2010s more than identity-first marketing. There is no big diversity campaign framing for this title.
15%
Woke political dialogue
Most talk is crude buddy banter and mission talk. One small beat links Kincaid’s first kill to revenge for his preacher father and adds a short Bible line about revenge. There are no activist speeches or long race and gender politics monologues.
8%
Identity-driven story themes
The plot is about redemption, teamwork, and stopping a dictator. Love and whether killers can be ethical drive the arcs. The interracial marriage motivates freeing Sonia as a personal romance, not as an identity lecture.
5%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Note Present. The ICC and Interpol are used to punish a foreign tyrant. A mole inside Interpol is a normal thriller betrayal. The story does not attack Western culture, Christianity, the family, or men as a class.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. This is an original screenplay. No legacy characters or established canon were rewritten for identity reasons.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No real anti-woke or too-DEI backlash showed up. Reviews mixed over clichés and chemistry, not politics. Left-leaning stereotype complaints are not anti-woke backlash under the scoring rules.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached scores for Hughes, O’Connor, producers, and casting directors sit very low. Their pattern is commercial action work, not activist storytelling. Producer Douglas Urbanski’s public conservative stance also supports a low context score.
