2016–2020 · Based on 4 seasons through July 14, 2020 ·
Ben Tennyson is a 10-year-old boy who finds the Omnitrix, an alien watch that lets him change into powerful aliens. He travels with his cousin Gwen and Grandpa Max during a summer road trip. The team fights aliens, monsters, criminals, and strange threats in different places. The show uses fast jokes, simple lessons, action, and bright cartoon comedy. The series gives Gwen a strong role as Ben’s smart partner and later shows her learning magic, fighting skills, and computer skills. Ben is often careless, while Gwen helps him make better choices and solve problems. These gender-role patterns appear across the show, but they are part of the family adventure story rather than a clear activist message. The story mainly focuses on teamwork, responsibility, family, friendship, and superhero action.

Woke representation / casting

0%
Identity-driven story themes
Gwen often appears as the more careful, skilled, or sensible partner when Ben acts foolishly. The series sometimes gives her magic, fighting ability, and leadership moments. These ideas recur, but they do not become a political or identity-based storyline. The main themes are family, teamwork, responsibility, and adventure.

0%
Woke character or canon changes
The reboot changes the tone, designs, and personalities of known Ben 10 characters. Gwen receives more visible powers and skills in parts of the run. These are identity-linked changes to an established character, but they are not presented as a modern political statement.
12%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No clear anti-woke complaint about the series was found. Fan criticism mainly attacked the humor, writing, animation, and treatment of older Ben 10 material. Right-leaning praise or general dislike would not count as backlash here.

Creator track record context
Duncan Rouleau has a stored score of 15 and has expressed interest in more LGBT themes in another project. Several stored writers have feminist, representation-focused, or activist backgrounds. The wider writing team also includes many people with little or no recorded activist profile. The show’s actual content remains much milder than some of the creators’ outside work.
