2017 · Based on 1 season, 13 episodes through September 6, 2017 ·
Blood Drive follows Arthur Bailey, a Los Angeles cop in an alternate 1999. A giant fracking disaster has split the United States, and water and fuel are scarce. Arthur is forced to join a cross-country race in which cars run on human blood and losing teams are killed. He must work with Grace D’Argento, a violent driver who wants to save her sister, while the race exposes the power of Heart Enterprises. The show uses extreme gore, sex, dark jokes, strange monsters, and pulpy action.
Most of the season treats Heart Enterprises as the force behind the broken society, the private police system, the race, and dangerous human experiments. The story repeatedly attacks corporate control, police brutality, environmental ruin, and the sale of human life for profit. Grace is a strong and ruthless woman who often drives the plan, wins fights, and saves Arthur, while Arthur changes from a rule-bound cop into a darker fighter. The Scholar kisses The Gentleman in a brief male same-sex subplot, but identity politics is not the main subject.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Blood Drive.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast includes a white male cop, a Spanish female lead, and a black male cop, but the show does not frame these choices as a diversity goal. The mix does not form a clear identity-based pattern for its alternate Los Angeles setting.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Arthur speaks about justice as he fights a society ruled by violence and corporate control. The series presents Heart Enterprises as responsible for the blood race, private police, human experiments, and resource shortages. The dialogue includes direct talk about justice and corruption, but it does not give long speeches about modern identity politics or current political parties. The tone stays pulpy and often plays these ideas as dark comedy.
23%
Identity-driven story themes
Grace is a main action lead who drives, fights, kills, and often controls the plan while Arthur starts as the more sheltered partner. The Scholar kisses The Gentleman in a brief male same-sex subplot. Christopher falls in love with the female robot Aki, and their relationship explores whether a machine can have feelings. These elements are visible, but identity politics does not drive the season's main conflict.
16%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show presents Heart Enterprises as a huge company that controls the race, police work, medicine, drugs, and much of society. The private police force uses beatings and tooth quotas, and the company turns people into fuel or test subjects. The world was damaged by fracking and resource shortages, so the story also blames careless industry for social collapse. This critique repeats across the season, but it targets a fictional evil company rather than modern identity politics, capitalism as a whole, or traditional family and religious life.
32%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Blood Drive is an original story with no established characters, source canon, or real historical figures to change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public discussion centers on extreme gore, sex, language, unusual style, and low ratings, not woke or DEI themes. No notable anti-woke or anti-left campaign appears in the available coverage.

Creator track record context
James Roland has a 0/100 creator score, and David Straiton has a 13/100 director score. Roland's title interviews focus on grindhouse horror, dark humor, fracking, corporate greed, and an evil company, not an activist or identity-driven program. The available creator history does not show a strong woke track record.
