2023– · Based on 2 seasons through May 6, 2026 ·
Citadel is a globe-spanning spy show about Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, two elite agents whose memories are erased after their agency falls. Mason builds a quiet life as Kyle Conroy, while Nadia survives under another name and raises their daughter, Asha. The two agents return to action when Manticore, a syndicate backed by powerful families, hunts the surviving Citadel team. Across two seasons, the show mixes gun fights, chases, secret weapons, betrayal, romance, and family drama.
Nadia is a major heroic lead, and the show repeatedly presents her as a highly trained fighter, planner, and mother. Her South Asian identity and her place beside a white male co-lead are visible parts of the show's global design. The main story still centers on lost memories, divided loyalties, mind control, revenge, and the cost of secret work. Season 2 gives more space to Nadia's bond with Asha and to the damage caused by the choices of Mason, Bernard, and the other agents.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Citadel.
Woke representation / casting
Citadel places Indian actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the top co-lead role of Nadia Sinh, an elite spy who fights and plans beside Richard Madden's Mason. Nadia has major heroic action scenes in both seasons and is also shown as a mother. Prime Video and David Weil describe the pair as a modern and inclusive answer to the usual white male spy lead, while Chopra says the spy genre was dominated by men. The global setting makes the mixed cast believable, so the score comes from repeated identity framing and prominent roles.
42%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The agents discuss missions, betrayal, memory, family, and control of weapons. The show has no recurring speeches about identity, activism, or modern political movements.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The main story follows memory loss, divided loyalty, family, and spy missions. It does not make race, gender, sexuality, or identity politics the subject of its main arcs.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Manticore is a spy-story villain made up of rich families, but the show does not connect its crimes to modern activist claims about capitalism, patriarchy, whiteness, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Citadel is an original spy story with no older characters, source material, or real historical figures being changed for identity reasons.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few small X accounts called Citadel woke, objected to women acting like men, or blamed diversity plans for its poor performance. One small post mocked the lead pairing and ended with “Stay woke.” The posts had little reach, and no major anti-woke campaign or review-bomb effort was found.
12%
Creator track record context
The key creative team has a mixed public record. David Weil's Hunters used stories about racism, white supremacy, xenophobia, and intersectionality, while Joe and Anthony Russo have spoken about political turmoil and wider viewpoints. Sarah Halley Finn has made racial and gender representation a public priority, and Gursimran Sandhu has written against patriarchal family rules. Most other key creators have little political or activist history.
